It started operations in May 2006, with over 1000 employees. Khaled Abdulla Al Qubaisi is the chairman and Dr. Michael Bitzer is the CEO of Daman.[1][2]
Daman was initially established to cater to the growing health insurance market in the UAE, whilst maintaining exclusive direct access to the many public providers in Abu Dhabi. Daman offers many technical products with added benefits, extended policy limits and wide geographical coverage.
Daman has nominated Munich Re, a re-insurance company based in Germany as its strategic partner. Recently, Daman has extended its operations to Dubai, the neighbouring Emirate.
With the highest market share in Abu Dhabi of around 85%, Daman covers more than 2,000,000 members as of September 2010. [3]

Plans
As health insurance is mandatory for all residents in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, HAAD - Health Authority of Abu Dhabi offers a basic coverage plan also known as Abu Dhabi Plan which is managed by Daman. Along with managing this plan, Daman has a diverse range of products:

Provider Network
Daman has contracted more than 450,000 providers around the globe including 1,700 providers in the UAE with direct billing services in United Arab Emirates.
Thiqa Scheme
Thiqa is a health insurance plan for UAE Nationals and those of similar status in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as per the resolution no. (83) of 2007. By January 2009 more than 500,000 UAE Nationals had enrolled in the Thiqa program since its inception in June 2008. Most of these also renewed their Thiqa plan in 2010.[4]
Daman Online Services
- Daman launched its online portal, www.damanhealth.ae in an ambitious initiative called e-Daman which aims to provide all health insurance related services online including paper-less claims submission, online endorsements, online quote request, online policy renewals and an online tool where users can search, receive driving directions for and rate different providers.
- Online Health Insurance in GCC
- The concept of providing online health insurance in the GCC is new. Daman was the first organization to launch a dedicated online health insurance portal in the region. The idea of managing health insurance online by Daman is becoming increasingly popular in the UAE and many other health insurance organizations are now trying to adapt similar services.
- In 2009, Daman's Online Services team carried out multiple offline and online marketing campaigns in order to increase online usage and visitor retention on its website. Many government organizations and giant corporations have shown interest in managing their members' health insurance in a paper-less environment with Daman.
