DP Information Group is a Singapore credit and business information bureau formed in 1978 by private individuals. Today, it is one of the largest providers of credit and business information to the financial institutions, conglomerates, companies and small and mid-sized businesses in Singapore. Its institutional investor is LSE-listed Experian plc, one of the world’s largest credit reference agencies.

Over its 3 decades in business, DP Info has amassed a substantial database covering company and financial information. It provides the nation’s banks and law firms with credit, legal and information checks on individuals and companies. Some international organisations also use the firm’s company credit report services to check on their members annually.

It has a sizable database of the country’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through an annual national survey it conducts – SME Development Survey. In recent years, it started a similar annual survey, profiling the developmental needs of Singapore’s new and smaller start-up companies.

DP Info Group’s work with the country’s small and mid-sized businesses also extends to providing a commercial credit bureau (started in 2002), where the receivables of companies are lodged with the bureau and shared among its members.

In 2007, it started a consumer credit bureau – DP Credit Bureau – recognised by the Monetary Authority of Singapore through the Third Schedule to the Banking Act.

DP Info also develops credit rating and credit scoring models. Its custom credit ratings model for Singapore companies, based on a regression methodology; it is currently being used by government agencies such as the Building and Construction Authority and the Council for Private Education to evaluate top-tier construction companies and privately operated education firms respectively.

Since 1986, the company has ranked the country’s most successful companies and small and mid-sized firms by financial performance. Named the “Singapore 1000 & SME 500”, it ranks on an annual basis, the nation’s top 1000 companies and top 500 SMEs. In recent years, it also started an annual companion ranking called the “Singapore International 100”, recognising the nation state’s largest companies by overseas revenue.

The company operates a business service arm, called DP Bureau, which helps local and foreign entrepreneurs set up their business in Singapore. It helps new enterprises with business services such as filing for licenses and corporate secretarial services etc.

Formation & Ownership

DP Information Group was started by private individuals in 1978. Forty percent of it was acquired by Experian plc on October 2008.

Partnerships

DP Information Group has a partnership with RAM Holdings Berhad, a bond rating agency in Malaysia to set up RAM Credit Information Sdn Bhd, headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It provides similar credit and business information for the Malaysian market.

DP Info categorises its services through 3 verticals:-

• Information Services

This covers information and credit checks, credit reports etc. delivered primarily through a proprietary online portal called QuestNet. It produces global and local credit reports, conducts independent industry and economic/financials based research. They also have a marketing leads arm.

• Credit Management Services

This offering includes the credit ratings and consumer scoring solutions. It also provides account receivables and debt management services.

• SME Advisory & Bureau Services

DP Info helps entrepreneurs start up their business with their advisory arm. It also has a corporate secretarial services division. It processes the applications of companies to be government suppliers.
