The school's mission statement is listed on their website as being:

"The mission of the Palmer Public Schools is to ensure the opportunity for all of the children of Palmer to participate in the benefits afforded by a well-planned, coordinated educational program and designed to serve their needs by:

Providing a safe, secure and positive environment which fosters the growth of self-esteem through accomplishments in learning. Assessing their educational requirements, recognizing the validity of varied learning styles, and providing appropriate programming for each student.

Preparing in our students a lifelong commitment to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth. Encouraging our students to have a deep understanding of the principles of fair play and the rights of all responsible individuals within a democratic society.

To make the most of the educational opportunity afforded the student by the community, the student will demonstrate: The self-motivation and the self-discipline necessary for the pursuit of excellence. His/her understanding of how to learn and applying that knowledge to the enhancement of his/her life and the lives of others.

History

The Converse Middle School was originally constructed in 1923 as Palmer High School. In 1963, there was an addition to the building. The building became the Converse Middle School in 1991. There are currently 420 students enrolled in grades 5-7, with 41 professional and 27 support staff.

Teachers and Classes

  • 17 subject level/homeroom teachers
  • 9 special education teachers which includes 4 inclusion, 4 resource and 1 speech/language teacher
  • 3 Title I remedial teachers, (2 math teachers and 1 reading)
  • 1 part-time professional librarian
  • 4 unified arts teachers (art, music, physical education, and MCAS math)
  • 1 band director
  • 1 alternative education teacher
  • 2 guidance counselors
  • 1 full-time nurse
  • 2 administrators

Students also receive instruction in unified arts: music, art, physical education, MCAS math, keyboarding (grade 7), and school to career guidance (grade 7). Band and chorus are offered to students of all grades.
