Formula One World Championship Grands Prix only. The Coloni C4 was a Formula One car designed by Christian Vanderpleyn for the Coloni team[1] for use in the 1991 Formula One season. It was also briefly used by the Andrea Moda team in 1992 as the Andrea Moda C4B.
The C4 was an evolution of Coloni C3 from 1989, but with better aerodynamics. Some details were designed by students from the University of Perugia. Coloni wanted to hire Andrea de Cesaris (who had support of Marlboro), but de Cesaris went to Jordan so Coloni hired newcomer, Pedro Chaves. Naoki Hattori replaced Chaves before the Japanese Grand Prix. The drivers of the C4 were never able to prequalify. Chaves justified the poor results as being due to a lack of testing.[2]
After the 1991 season, the Coloni team was sold to Andrea Sassetti and renamed Andrea Moda Formula. Coloni also sold the Coloni C4, but it never raced in any Grands Prix.
