Colette Carr (born January 6, 1991) is an American singer-songwriter and rapper based in Malibu and Los Angeles, California. She is signed with Cherrytree Records. Carr released her debut single, "Back It Up", in 2009. Her debut album, Skitszo, is scheduled for release sometime in 2011. Lead single "We Do It (Primo)" was released on May 11, 2011.

Career

Beginnings

Carr had always loved music growing up. "I was obsessed with music growing up. I had my walkman on 24/7. I would write lyrics and song titles all over my walls in sharpie. I was extremely consumed." said Carr. Carr originally was a competitive tennis player, until an injury involving her back led her to be unable to play anymore. "I was either going to become paralyzed and continue playing or stop and find a new destination for myself”, says Carr. ^[1]

2009–10: Career beginnings

Carr was discovered at a Game concert. The host, comedian Stroy Moyd, asked the audience if anyone could freestyle. Carr got on stage and freestyled while the crowd waited for the Game to show up. The fans reacted positively, and Colette "fell in love" with performing.^[2] In 2009, Carr released her debut single, "Back it Up". The song quickly became a viral success, with its music video, directed by Richie Mac, earning more than 465,000 views MTV Music and becoming one of mtvU's top 10 videos of the week.^[2] Carr then caught the attention of Nick Cannon, who signed her to his N'crediable Records.^{[3] [4]} In 2010,Carr released a video for "Bitch Like Me", directed by Jonathan Singer-Vine.^[5][6] Also in 2010, she released her first mix-tape "Sex Sells Stay Tooned".^[5]

2011–present: Skitszo

Carr's debut album, Skitszo, is due to be released in 2011. The first single "We Do It (Primo)" was released on May 11, 2011. As a result, Carr reached the number-one spot on Billboard's Uncharted Artists chart.^[7] She mentioned in an interview that "Skitszo" is a tribute to her schizophrenic uncle R.O.B.I.N. ^[8] Carr was also featured on Frankmusik's single "No I.D." from his second album Do It in the AM.

Carr has stated in various interviews that her influences include Baris Mancho, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Dr. Dre, Biggie, Pac, Wu Tang, Eminem, Dre, Snoop,^[9] and Britney Spears.^[10]
