Biography
The youngest of three children, Perry lives near Salisbury and originates from North Somerset where she attended Nailsea School, a comprehensive school. She later studied at Brasenose College, Oxford, where she read Geography, graduating in 1985. She later earned an MBA at Harvard University. Her career was in banking and finance, working for Bank of America, McKinsey & Company, and Credit Suisse before setting up her own small company offering financial advice for women.[4] She is married with three children. After joining the Conservative party in 2006, she went to work for the Shadow Chancellor George Osborne.[5]
Perry was selected by local Conservatives in November 2009 to replace the outgoing Member for Devizes, Michael Ancram, in a safe seat for her party.[6]
In 2010 she supported calls for an opt out filtering system for the Internet, where sites with 18+ material would be blocked unless the user opted out of the system. She also suggested that ISPs offer a range of age levels, with the default setting being that anything not suitable for under-14s be blocked.[7][8][9]
In July 2011 she presented a Private Members' Bill to Parliament calling for Remembrance Sunday to be made a bank holiday.[10] The Bill passed its first reading and was due to be debated again on 21 October 2011.[11]
