Christopher Barlow

Christopher George Barlow (1858 – 30 August 1915) was an Anglican bishop[1] in the second half of the 19th century[2] and the early part of the 20th.[3]

Barlow was born in Dublin[4] and educated at Brecknock College before entering business with his stepfather.[5] Later he went to Australia to be Secretary to his friend George Henry Stanton, the first Bishop of North Queensland[6]. Ordained in 1881[7] his first position was as a curate at Mackay.[8] He then held incumbencies at St Paul’s Charters Towers and St James’ Pro-Cathedral,[9] Townsville[10] before succeeding Stanton.[11] in 1891[12] He was translated[13] to Goulburn in 1902.[14] He died in post on 30 August 1915 and is buried at Mulwaree.[15][16] and a street in Townville is named in his memory[17]
