Christopher Barlow

Christopher George Barlow (1858 – 30 August 1915) was an Anglican bishop^[1] in the second half of the 19th century^[2] and the early part of the 20th.^[3]

Barlow was born in Dublin^[4] and educated at Brecknock College before entering business with his stepfather.^[5] Later he went to Australia to be Secretary to his friend George Henry Stanton, the first Bishop of North Queensland^[6]. Ordained in 1881^[7] his first position was as a curate at Mackay.^[8] He then held incumbencies at St Paul’s Charters Towers and St James’ Pro-Cathedral,^[9] Townsville^[10] before succeeding Stanton.^[11] in 1891^[12] He was translated^[13] to Goulburn in 1902.^[14] He died in post on 30 August 1915 and is buried at Mulwaree.^[15][16] and a street in Townville is named in his memory^[17]
