Children and Libraries (CAL) is the official journal of the Association of Library Service to Children. It is published three times a year. It supersedes the Journal of Youth Services (formerly Top of the News)[1], which was published together with Young Adult Library Services Association until 2002.
Children and Libraries serves as a resource for the continuing education of youth services librarians by providing information on current practice and scholarly research in the field. CAL also reports on significant activities, programs, and news from the Association of Library Service to Children. Throughout its publication history, CAL has maintained a strong emphasis on showcasing successful library programming as well as spotlighting notable children's books and authors. Articles typically included in each issue cover a variety of topics ranging from the impact of violence in children's literature to the examination of the multifaceted role of youth services librarians in the changing social, cultural, and technological landscapes.
