As a branch of the main campus, Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Children’s at Legacy now offers care to families across North Texas and beyond. Located at 7601 Preston Road in Plano, the campus sits on a 155-acre (0.63 km2) site with "green space" preserved to provide an environment for patients and families. The medical staff includes specialists from UT Southwestern. The inpatient portion of Children's Legacy currently features 36 beds with an infrastructure for 240 beds, four operating rooms, 24-7 emergency services, and laboratory, pharmacy and imaging services. The Legacy Ambulatory Care Pavilion, which is attached to the main hospital, offers a suburban group of pediatric specialists.
Children's is a founding member of the Coalition for North Texas Children, a nonpartisan educational alliance of national, state and local nonprofit organizations working together to solve the serious problems children face. These efforts extend into the areas of access to children's health insurance, child abuse, pediatric AIDS, childhood obesity and community health and wellness.
Children's connects uninsured families with the resources available to receive insurance.[citation needed] Children's also leads the Dallas-area SAFE KIDS Coalition to raise awareness about childhood injury prevention. Ambulatory Care Pavilion provides 120,000 square feet (11,000 m2) of space which holds 48 exam rooms where patients receive care in specialties and a full range of other services.
