Chellow is open source Energy accounting software for checking the correctness of UK electricity bills.
Energy accounting software is a class of software products used for tracking, managing, processing, reporting and analyzing for accuracy of utility bills and energy information. Such software is needed to check the accuracy of utility bills, so that accurate billing data can then be processed by energy management software.
There are many proprietary packages on the market and these deal very well with the needs of the majority of users - typically retail chains will have many sites each with one billed supply and no on site generation.
Chellow originated by the Wessex Water Energy Team, following a survey of the best available competing products which found that they all had one or more deficiencies when it came to dealing with large complex organisations such as a water company. The company had, for example, many sites fed from one supply, and many cases where many supplies feed one site; Also, the existing software solutions could not deal adequately with on site generation such as combined heat and power - CHP and diesel generators.
Chellow was produced by analysts working for Wessex Water to cover all these issues and is thought to be unique in its breadth and capabilities and the fact that it is open source and therefore free.
