The Roses Edition Cover art for the limited edition Yorkshire/Lancashire/Oregon release.Ignore the Ignorant is the fourth studio album by the British band The Cribs. The album was released in the United Kingdom on 7 September 2009 via Wichita Recordings, following the release of the first single "Cheat on Me" on 31 August. On 8 September the album was made available in the United States as a digital download, and then released officially on Compact Disc on 10 November by Warner Bros. Records.[2] The album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Nick Launay. It is the first and only album by The Cribs to feature second guitarist Johnny Marr, formerly of The Smiths and Modest Mouse[3]; Marr left the band in 2011 to return to solo work.

Recording
The album was recorded with Launay in Los Angeles' Seedy Underbelly studio.[4] In an interview with HitQuarters Launay said the sessions began with a week long rehearsal period where the band's songs were "played over and over again so that all the arrangements, tempos, etc. could be worked out first."[4] The album was then able to be recorded effectively as a live performance, with all four members playing together in one room at the same time, and in doing so capture the raw and direct feeling they wanted. Nevertheless, the album is not fully live as a few overdubs and replacements were made later. The main body of the recording was completed in three weeks, with another week spent on overdubs and then mixing.[4]
Released tracks
"Cheat on Me" was released as the first single on 31 August 2009. "We Were Aborted" was debuted on Steve Lamacq's Radio 1 show and was available for free download from The Cribs' website, for only 24 hours, the day after it was debuted. On 31 August, one week before the album's release, the band partnered with online streaming service we7 and NME.com to allow fans to hear the new album in full. The album's second single was "We Share the Same Skies," released on 6 November 2009.
The Roses Edition
There was a special, deluxe box set edition of the record, nicknamed The Roses Edition, which was only available in the local areas that the band hail from. The band hoped to encourage people to go out and buy the physical format, rather than buying online digitally; and in doing so, support local record stores. The Roses Edition was only available from shops in Yorkshire (Ryan, Ross, and Gary Jarman's home county), Lancashire (Johnny Marr's home county), and Portland, Oregon (Gary Jarman's adopted hometown and current residence), all areas symbolized by roses. The box contains the Ignore the Ignorant album and a full-length live CD of The Cribs performing at The Ritz, Manchester, along with a DVD documentary of the recording of the album, and a silent film titled The Serpent and the Peach, recorded predominantly on a hand-held camera.
Chart performance
The album reached #8 on the UK albums chart, making it the band's highest-charting album. It was released the same week as all of The Beatles' deluxe re-issues, outselling all but two of them in the first week. The band described this in various interviews at the time as "surreal."
Critical reception
Reviews of the album were generally very positive, with all major UK music magazines giving it at least 4 out of 5 stars. Robert Earle of Stereola gave the album 9 out of 10, describing it as "a masterpiece from start to finish."
In December 2009, Mojo magazine placed the album at #11 in their "Albums of the Year" chart, and The Fly placed it at #7 on their "Albums of the Year" chart. NME also placed it at #30 in their end of year list. In Japan, Crossbeat magazine placed it at #8 in its "Albums of 2009" list, whilst Music Magazine called it the #1 album of 2009. Both magazines are leading publications in Japan.
