Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of IndiaAdmiral Sir Charles Carter Drury, GCB, GCVO, KCSI (August 27, 1846 – May 18, 1914) was a Canadian Royal Navy Admiral who went on to be Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel.
Born in Rothesay, New Brunswick, Drury joined the Royal Navy and was made a sub-lieutenant in 1865. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1868, to Commander in 1878 and to Captain in 1885.[1] Drury was appointed Commanding Officer of the battleship HMS Hood in 1895.[2]
Promoted Rear Admiral in 1899, he went on to serve as Commander-in-Chief, East Indies Station from 1902 and then Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel from 1903.[3] He was promoted to Vice-Admiral in 1904, and became Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet from 1907 before being promoted to Admiral and becoming Commander-in-Chief, The Nore in 1908.[4][5] He retired in 1911.[1]
He was Aide-de-camp to Queen Victoria from 1897 to 1899.
