-
The 2008 Champions Youth Cup, second edition of the tournament, was canceled in June, two months before the start, because of a dispute between Football Association of Malaysia and the organizers (Gifted Group).[1]
The tournament would have taken place in Malaysia from 5 August to 16 August 2008. China would have made their debut in the tournament this year, the other Asian sides this year would have been Qatar, India and hosts Malaysia. 16 teams were invited to the tournament: from Europe; from England, defending champions Manchester United and Chelsea, from Italy, AC Milan and Juventus (2007 CYC runners-up), Germany’s Bayern Munich and Spain’s Barcelona, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven from the Netherlands and Olympique Lyonnais from France and Portugal’s Porto. They were also invited two teams from South America, Flamengo from Brazil and River Plate from Argentina.
