Club career

Coombes played with the Football Kingz in the National Soccer League before it went defunct, and moved to Auckland City FC. He has represented Auckland City in their first FIFA Club World Cup appearance in 2006,[2] in which they failed to impress, losing every game, and failing to score a single goal, however he made history when he became one of the first Auckland City players to score in the 2009 competition in which he scored the second goal in their 2-0 win over United Arab Emirates club Al Ahli.[3]

Coombes signed for English Isthmian League Division One South club Fleet Town FC in September, 2010.[4] He made his debut for the club against Eastbourne Town FC away from home, and drew 1-1.[5]

International career

Coombes made his international debut on 3 March 2010 after being called up to the national team for their pre-world cup friendly against Mexico as a replacement for Craig Henderson who was injured whilst training for his club.[6] New Zealand would go onto lose the game 2-0.[7]

Personal life

Coombes was a teacher of physical education and health at Rutherford College in Auckland.[8] He is currently the Director of Sport at Onehunga High School in Auckland.
