Long Beach, Niagara Regional Municipality, Ontario

Long Beach is a small hamlet in the southwest of Wainfleet in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada. It is one of many popular cottage-based communities on the shores of Lake Erie. Tourist season is primarily in the summer.

Long Beach Ontario is a crescent shaped, white sand beach on the shores of Lake Erie in Ontario. The beach itself is over a mile in length and resides about 35 miles west of Buffalo. Because of its location, the beach draws many New Yorkers over the border. Long Beach Conservation Area is a popular place to camp. Als' Miniature Golf provides entertainment and snacks to many tourists and cottagers who pass through the area in the summer. There is also a convenience store, Concessi's, a fish and chips restaurant, DJ's Roadhouse, and the 9 hole Long Beach Country Club (Actually located in Lowbanks which is the next bay west).

The Long Beach Conservation Area is located toward the most western point of Long Beach and contains 275 camp sites on 139 acres. It is used as a day park, seasonal and weekly camping including showers and restroom facilities, picnic pavilions and boat launch. The park was once owned by Gregory Deck who was the founder of Deco Restaurants of Buffalo, New York and Fran's Restaurants of Toronto, Canada. The park was sold to the Provincial Government for $5.

Gregory Deck owned a large portion of Long Beach which he bought back in the early 1930's. Over the years, his property was divided into lots and sold. The property where St Theresa's Roman Catholic was actually donated to the church and a parish built for the summer residence. Gregory Deck, at one time, had planned to develop the area adding streets, parks and homes north of Lakeshore Road but due to illness that never came to fruition. To this day, some of his grandchildren and great grandchildren still reside in Long Beach.

While Long Beach's history may seem otherwise uneventful, it is rumored that Credence Clearwater Revival played a show at 'The Cove' in Long Beach in 1968. The Cove is a Bar/Night Club that opened in the 1960s in Long Beach. It was the only bar located on the beach until it burned down in the early 1980s. The Cove reopened in 1999 under new management and has changed hands several times since. The Cove has had limited success since its reopening.
