Nij Beets — Village — Country Netherlands Province Friesland Population - Total c. 1.691 (2,005). Nij Beets (archaic Dutch: Nieuw Beets) is a village consisting of about 1690 inhabitants in the municipality of Opsterland in the east of Friesland in the Netherlands.

History
Nij Beets was founded in 1863 by peat workers. The peat workers came to around 1860 to Nij Beets to peat their (peat) bosses to excavate and then to make peat of it. The settlement was near from the old village Beets. The peat was a major transit route to the former municipality Utingeradiel, de Zeveinsweg; north lay the Ga Weg - now Prikkewei - in the village.
In 1831 a new road, the Nije Leppedyk - nowadays the Domela Nieuwenhuiswei - between Zeveinsweg and the Gean Wei constructed. The fields ranged from 1863 to kick off. Twenty years had the landscape alternating strips wasteland, hayfields and peat bog show.It was mainly the de Prikkewei constructed, on the east side of the Skipsleat and north of the Nij Beetsterfeart. From late 19th century was the extraction of peat slowly in order.
Cultivation
In 1891 there a wooden church built. In 1908 was near the Skipsleat a Dutch Reformed Church of stone be built. In 1917 followed a Reformed church on the Prikkewei . Of organized early people's Housing A list of twenty from 1921 on the Swynswei (the former Zeveinswei) built homes and the list of twelve in 1938 and 1940 on a side path of the Domela Nieuwenhuiswei were constructed, good examples.
Geography
Nij Beets situated in a polder landscape, so there is not much visual pollution but well nice perspective. through Nij Beets runs the Polderhoofdcanal. Which in the future made again navigable for boats. It runs from De Veenhoop off by Nij Beets to the Nije feart by De Uilesprong. By de Feanhoop is the nature area de Kraanlannen. Here are the petgaten from the peat time. De Kraanlannen Admission is free in this area with many birds and other animals. South of Nij Beets runs the "Boarn". This is a river previously released in the Middelzee. More South of the river is natural area De Deelen, that also in the time of peat digging occurred.
Nij Beets is centrally located in the area which borders the forest of Beetsterzwaag and the Frisian Lakes area.
