Issaquah Middle School was constructed as the first middle school of the
Issaquah School District and opened with the name Issaquah Junior High School in 1955 [http://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/schools/school.asp?school=ims] ; following a magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck the greater Puget Sound region on April 29th, 1965 [http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/states/events/1965_04_29.php] . Majority of the teachers at Issaquah Middle have 1 to 5 years of teaching experience with 71 percent of the teachers holding Master's and Ph.D degrees. The school offers a "highly capable" program called Humanities Plus which is a block class containing history and english cirriculum for which 174 students are enrolled (as of 2008); an ESL Program for which 23 students are enrolled (as of 2008); and a

As of 2008, Issaquah Middle School has a WEB "Where Everybody Belongs" program which assists incoming sixth graders adjust to the new environment of middle school life. Since 2005, the school is involved in the Green Schools Program of
King County, Washington which was adopted by theIssaquah School District to reduce outgoing waste from the school by increasing recycling and decreasing the usage of the garbage dumpster. The PTSA also provides the school with numerous hours of volunteering at school activites and services. Such an example of the volunteer work is the Walk About program.
