Cetate — Commune — Coordinates: 44°6′N 23°13′E / 44.1°N 23.217°E Country Romania County Dolj County Population (2002)[1] 5,971 Time zone EET (UTC+2) - Summer (DST) EEST (UTC+3) Cetate is a commune in Dolj County, Romania with a population of 6,000 people. It is composed of two villages, Cetate and Moreni.
In January 1854, during the Crimean War, Cetate was the scene of a battle between a Russian garrison there and a Turkish army based in Kalafat. The battle was inconclusive, though the Turks were unable to capture the town.
