Alamitos Intermediate School

Alamitos Intermediate School is a public school in the Garden Grove Unified School District. Their students all come from Garden Grove, Stanton, or Cypress. Their mascot is the condor, and the school colors are black and red.

Academic competitions

Alamitos Intermediate School has made several great achievements and has received numerous awards and trophies. For example, Alamitos Intermediate School has participated in the Academic Pentathlon and The National Spelling Bee. Earning fourth place in both, Alamitos Intermediate School is very grateful for every single person, both staff and students.

After school activities

Alamitos Intermediate School offers tennis, basketball and football as interscholastic sports. Students can also join Boys & Girls Club, Homework Club, FSEA, Academic Pentathlon or Spelling Bee.

The school also holds a Winter Ball in December and two off-campus events, the Skate Party and Bowling Party.

Classes

Alamitos Intermediate School has a great variety of academic subjects. For 7th graders, each person has to have two English periods, either Algebra 1P or Pre-Algebra, one physical education class, either Life Science or World History, and an elective or a lab class. The 8th graders have one English period, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1P, or Geometry. They also have Science, History, and an elective or lab class.

The elecitives include AVID, ASB, Drawing and Painting, Intro Art, Keyboarding, Shop Survey, Woodshop, Band, Orchestra, Choir, Journalism, and a Teacher's Assistant left for the 8th graders.

Fundraisers

For the Alamitos fundraisers, Alamitos raised the most money out of all the intermediate schools in Garden Grove Unified School District. Those students that had sold at least ten items, got to participate in the fundraiser dance, which included a DJ, the principal, Mr. Gates, shaving his head because the students had raised over $45000 from the fundraiser, and several other activities like the Dice Roll, Limo Ride to Boomers, Ipod Nano drawing, Money Envelopes, and a series of games.

Student recognition

Students receive Super Stars for achievement, effort or good citizenship. Students deposit their Super Stars in the main office for a weekly chance of winning prizes.

Teachers nominate Student of the Week for outstanding grades, citizenship and participation in activities. Students' names appear on the marquee for the entire week. In addition, students receive a certificate and a week of Front Of The Line Passes.

Students who receive a 3.5 GPA or higher are recognized on the Principal's Honor Roll. Students who receive a 3.0 to a 3.49 GPA are recognized as beinng on the Honor Roll. These students are given a certificate for their accomplishment and are invited to a quarterly party.

Students who receive at least 8 Outstanding (O's) and no Needs Improvement (N's) and/or Unsatisfactory (U's) in citizenship or work habits receive a Condor Club card which they can use for early dismissal to lunch privileges on Thursday and Friday.

Teachers may nominate students to be honored by administration for accomplishments within their classroom. These students will receive a certificate and a front of the line pass.

During the early part of June, Alamitos holds its Annual Awards Dessert Night. Teachers honor students for reasons such as academic or physical fitness achievement, outstanding effort, improvement, and perfect attendace. Students nominated for awards and their families are invited to attend.
