Sylvia Wetzel (born
5 July 1949 in theBlack Forest ) is a Buddhist feminist. She has made a name for herself in the Buddhist community of Germany in the topics ofmeditation andspirituality among women. In doing so she has potentially also impacted men in relation to those topics as well.Life
Sylvia Wetzel studied
political science andSlavistics inHeidelberg starting in1968 . During this time she was also politically active in thefeminist movement . Sie had her first meeting withTibet an Buddhists inDharamsala in1977 . She became a student ofThubten Yeshe and later ofZopa Rinpoche , further studying with a number of others, includingPrabhasa Dharma Roshi ,Ayya Khema , Akong Rinpoche, andRigdzin Shikpo . She is a member, worker, and advisor of theGerman Buddhist Union since1984 and served as spokesperson for the group from1985 until1993 . Wetzel gives meditation courses, holds lectures, writes books on the topic of Buddhism and is considered influential in her interpretations of Buddhist teachings. Most of her lectures are held in Germany orSpain .External links
