Owen Fegan (born November 1, 1972) is Creative Director at New York Magazine. Born in Cork, Ireland, he is a founding member of Irish rock band Rubyhorse, formed in 1987 with schoolmates Dave Farrell, Decky Lucey, Joe Philpott, and Gordon Ashe.[1] Upon the band's move from Cork, Ireland to Boston, Massachusetts in 1997, the band signed to Los Angeles based label, Interscope Records.[2]
After a musical career which saw two major-label recording contracts (Interscope Records and Island Records), a single ("Sparkle") which peaked at #21 on the Billboard charts in the summer of 2002,[3] a collaboration with George Harrison on the track "Punchdrunk",[4] appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman,[5] Late Night with Conan O'Brien,[6] Good Morning America,[7] as well as international tours, sharing stages with artists as including R.E.M.,[8] INXS,[9] and Def Leppard,[8] Fegan finally left Rubyhorse behind,[10] and moved to New York City to pursue a solo musical career, and indulge his lifelong passions of art and photography.
Soon after his move to New York city, Fegan accepted a position as a Creative Director at SPIN magazine,[11].
He continues working as a photographer, his work appearing in major commercial campaigns, as well as magazines such as SPIN, Rolling Stone, Blender, High Times, as well as Tom Petty's Runnin' Down A Dream biography[12] alongside Mark Seliger, Annie Leibovitz, and Danny Clinch (who shot Rubyhorse's Rise album cover).[13]
Following four years as Design Director at Rolling Stone magazine[11], he accepted the position of Creative Director at New York Magazine.[14] Fegan currently resides in New York city.
