Darushifa دارلشفأ In Arabic,Urdu, Turkish and Persian Means "The Door To Health" it was founded in 1591 AD more than 400 years ago by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah( The founder of hyderabad city ).
The area got this name for the Hospital built by Sultan Quli Qutub Shah 400 Hundred years ago. Later during Nizams rule due to insufficient space hospital was shifted to other building and the same building was utilized as Gun powder Factory. Currently this building is under Nizams Trust.
Geographically Darushifa lies in the south of Hyderabad city, on the banks of River Musi.It lies under Charminar Assembly Constituency.
Historically it is one of the old urban areas of Hyderabad, the name Darushifa derives that this area was popularly known for the Hospital constructed for the people of those period.
With the construction of the CHARMINAR and MACCA MISJID the Darulshifa Hospital and Jama Masjid was constructed.
Now it is one of the old suburbs of Hyderabad, India. It is part of the old city of Hyderabad. Darulshifa also houses a large population of shia muslims and comes alive on the days of shia occasions. Most of the households have one or other family member settled abroad, and whose remittences increase the quality of life.
The main attraction in Darushifa is Darushifa Jama Masjid constructed more than 400 years ago, by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah (The Founder of Hyderabad) on the banks of River Musi.The Mosque is floaded by worshipers Specially on friday and Ramazan covering the Ground of Jama Masjid. Commercial area
Darushifa is one of the oldest urban area of Hyderabad city and was developed in the Nizam period with the extension of== Jama Masjid. One can find the beautifully renewed Jama Masjid. With a Market Aroud the Area of Mosque.Here you can find your choice of shops and Restaurants the most famous Restaurants are Iqbal Hotel, Ajwa Hotel and Choice Hotel. Darushifa starts from the new bridge Mosque, also known as Naya Pul, and the suburbs start from the Masjid Haji Kamal and Aza Khana-e-Zehra which was constructed by Nizam.
Until 1980s Hyderabad Municipal Corporation head office was located in Darulshifa, currently it is been serving as QQSUDA head office.
Transport
Darushifa is connected by buses run by APSRTC. All the RTC buses which head towards Charminar rout thru Darulshifa.
The closest MMTS train station is at dabeerpura.
