Career

Barnes was a vocalist with the UK pop group the Quiet Five before departing for a solo career in 1969. [http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:knfyxztgldte~T1 Allmusic.com review by Mark Deming] ] Over the next four years he cut a handful of pop records before launching a career in the musical theatre in the London cast of "Jesus Christ Superstar". Gerry Bron produced his recordings.

Barnes released an album on Capitol Records in 1970, and scored two chart hits in the UK Singles Chart that same year. His first hit, "Take to the Mountains" reached #35 in May 1970, and "Go North" peaked at #38 in November. A compilation album was released in August 2007 by RPM Records, under the title of "Take To The Mountains". It featured tracks recorded by Barnes between 1969 and 1974. The track listing is as follows:-
