Wheeler is a village in Dunn County, Wisconsin, United States, along the Hay River. The population was 317 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Wheeler is located at coor dms|45|2|37|N|91|54|25|W|city (45.043728, -91.906841)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 317 people, 134 households, and 79 families residing in the village. The population density was 386.8 people per square mile (149.3/km²). There were 142 housing units at an average density of 173.3/sq mi (66.9/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.42% White, 1.26% Native American, and 0.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.95% of the population.

There were 134 households out of which 28.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% were non-families. 32.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the village the population was spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 111.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $25,938, and the median income for a family was $43,000. Males had a median income of $29,500 versus $23,333 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,883.
