- Poqueira River
The Río Poqueira is a river in La
Alpujarra region in the province of Granada, inSpain . It is formed for the confluence of streams that rise near the summit ofMulhacén , the highest peak of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and flows south. Near the confluence there is ahydro-electric station, and the associated abandoned settlement of La Cebadilla, built to house the workers. The river cuts through a dramatic gorge. To the east side climb the villages ofCapileira ,Bubión andPampaneira which have become noted touristic attractions. At Pampaneira, near the bridge by which the main road fromÓrgiva andLanjarón crosses the river, there is another hydro-electric installation. South of Pampaneira the Río Poqueira joins theRío Trevélez shortly before flowing into theRío Guadalfeo .
