Gloucester Rangers , college hockey withBoston University and one season in the International Hockey League with thePeoria Rivermen , Thornton's career has been played inEurope . He has single season spells inAustria with Klagenfurt and inGermany 'sDeutsche Eishockey-Liga with theAdler Mannheim before moving to theUnited Kingdom , spending five seasons with theCardiff Devils . He also had spells with the London Knights and the Belfast Giants where he won the playoff cup in 2003. He then moved toItaly , spending two seasons withVal Pusteria Wolves and the had spells inSwitzerland andSweden before returning to Britain, joined theBasingstoke Bison .On April 7, 2008, Thornton was confirmed as the new player/coach of the Belfast Giants, replacing
