Magna Carta (Italy)

Magna Carta (Italy)

Magna Carta is a think tank, and practically a faction, within The People of Freedom, a political party in Italy.

The group tries to combine elements of liberalism with Catholic social teaching, supports the so-called "Judeo-Christian roots" of Europe, takes a strong pro-United States and pro-Israel stance in foreign policy, especially in relation to radical Islam and Islamic terrorism. For these reasons and also because of the right-wing roots of many of its member, the group is sometimes described[by whom?] as the theoconservative and neoconservative faction within Forza Italia.

The foundation's leading figure was Marcello Pera, a former President of the Italian Senate, but Gaetano Quagliariello, a leading senator of the party, has taken over as practical leader. Among the MPs, Fiamma Nirenstein, Eugenia Roccella, Luigi Compagna, Souad Sbai, Giuseppe Caldersi, Alfredo Mantovano and Guido Possa are, at different extent, close to the foundation.
