Reformists and Democrats

Reformists and Democrats ("Riformisti e Democratici", ReD) is a predominantly social-democratic faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy.

It was founded in June 2004 as an association of more than 100 MPs close to the "Fondazione ItalianiEuropei", the think-tank of Massimo D'Alema, and it is basically composed by long-time "Dalemiani", such as Pier Luigi Bersani, Nicola Latorre, Marco Minniti, Barbara Pollastrini and Michele Ventura. ReD, which proposes a structured model of party and its entry in the Party of European Socialists, is increasingly critical on Walter Veltroni, the Democrat leader, and, following the recent moves of "Lettiani" and "Dalemiani", there is a talk of a possible ticket formed by Enrico Letta himself and Pier Luigi Bersani, a protégé of Massimo D'Alema who was stopped from running in 2007 along with Letta against Veltroni by D'Alema himself, to replace the current leadership formed by Walter Veltroni and Dario Franceschini, a left-wing Popular.
