- Frumious Bandersnatch
Frumious Bandersnatch was a seminal
psychedelic rock band of the late 1960's. The band was named after a character from the famousLewis Carroll poem "Jabberwocky ". Based out ofSan Francisco, California , which at the time was the center of thepsychedelic movement, the band had a short life span, being active only from 1967–1969. They only released one studio recording, a three-song EP, during their brief existence. The EP produced a minor underground hit with the song "Hearts to Cry", which has since appeared in several compilations of 1960's psychedelic music, including theRhino Records release "". A recording of their live work, titled "A Young Man's Song", was released the Big Beat label as a part of their "Nuggets From the Golden State" series. The band is far more notable as an incubator for other bands which grew out of the 1960's San Francisco music scene. Four members of Frumious Bandersnatch,
Bobby Winkelman , Jack King,Ross Valory , and David Denny would be regular members of theSteve Miller Band . Valory, along with fellow Frumious Bandersnatch memberGeorge Tickner and manager Herbie Herbert would join with ex-Santana membersNeal Schon andGregg Rolie to form the band Journey in 1973.Notable members
