George Tickner (born
September 8 1946 , inSyracuse, New York ,USA ) played Rhythm Guitar and cowrote songs as a founding member of Journey. Prior to joining Journey, George was a member of the seminal San Franciscopsychedelic rock bandFrumious Bandersnatch , along with fellow Journey founderRoss Valory . After the release of the band's debut album, he left Journey to attend Stanford Medical School. Upon George's departure, Neal Schon took over all of the band's guitar duties, untilJonathan Cain joined in 1981. SingerSteve Augeri ) picked up the guitar for Journey's 2005 release "Generations" and the band's subsequent "30th Anniversary Tour.Since leaving Journey, George has maintained an active interest in music, as well as contacts with his former bandmates. Ross Valory created "The Hive", a Studio where he continued to write and compose music.
