United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 5.6square mile s (14.5km² ), all of it land.Fort Davis has the highest elevation above sea level of any
county seat in Texas; the elevation is 5,050 feet.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,050 people, 415 households, and 298 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 188.2 people per square mile (72.7/km²). There were 525 housing units at an average density of 94.1/sq mi (36.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 88.29% White, 0.19% African American, 0.48% Native American, 7.62% from other races, and 3.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 49.33% of the population.There were 415 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 102.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $25,882, and the median income for a family was $27,955. Males had a median income of $22,500 versus $20,000 for females. The
