Parker is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,379 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Parker is located at coor dms|33|3|25|N|96|37|17|W|city (33.056914, -96.621268)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km²), all of it land. Parker is the location of the famed Southfork Ranch from the TV series Dallas.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,379 people, 485 households, and 430 families residing in the city. The population density was 265.9 people per square mile (102.6/km²). There were 505 housing units at an average density of 97.4/sq mi (37.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 90.07% White, 2.10% African American, 0.94% Native American, 1.38% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 3.05% from other races, and 2.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.32% of the population.

There were 485 households out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 83.5% were married couples living together, 3.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 11.3% were non-families. 8.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 33.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 104.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $101,786, and the median income for a family was $108,560. Males had a median income of $72,344 versus $41,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $54,099. About 1.4% of families and 2.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.4% of those under age 18 and 1.3% of those age 65 or over.

Education

A small part of Parker is served by the Allen Independent School District, while the majority is served by the Plano Independent School District.

The portion of Parker in AISD is served by Allen High School. The portion of Parker in PISD is served by Plano East Senior High School.
