Blue Ridge is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 672 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Blue Ridge is located at coor dms|33|17|57|N|96|24|6|W|city (33.299206, -96.401616)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 672 people, 233 households, and 177 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,019.2 people per square mile (393.1/km²). There were 259 housing units at an average density of 392.8/sq mi (151.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.45% White, 0.15% African American, 0.74% Native American, 4.17% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.99% of the population.

There were 233 households out of which 45.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% were non-families. 21.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.33.

In the city the population was spread out with 35.7% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 14.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $35,714, and the median income for a family was $42,778. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $26,979 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,397. About 8.4% of families and 9.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.0% of those under age 18 and 27.4% of those age 65 or over.

Education

The City of Blue Ridge is served by the Blue Ridge Independent School District.
