Hoven is a town in Potter County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 511 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Hoven is located at coor dms|45|14|31|N|99|46|36|W|city (45.241807, -99.776747)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), all of it land.

Hoven has been assigned the ZIP code 57450 and the FIPS place code 30300.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 511 people, 213 households, and 145 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,683.4 people per square mile (657.7/km²). There were 245 housing units at an average density of 807.1/sq mi (315.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.83% White, 0.20% Asian, 0.39% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.

There were 213 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% were non-families. 30.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the town the population was spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 3.7% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 27.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $28,942, and the median income for a family was $38,750. Males had a median income of $25,250 versus $14,063 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,809.
