Ward is a town in Moody County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 41 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Ward is located at coor dms|44|9|15|N|96|27|40|W|city (44.154239, -96.461131)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.

Ward has been assigned the ZIP code 57074 and the FIPS place code 68660.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 41 people, 18 households, and 9 families residing in the town. The population density was 144.0 people per square mile (56.5/km²). There were 22 housing units at an average density of 77.3/sq mi (30.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 87.80% White, 7.32% Native American, and 4.88% from two or more races.

There were 18 households out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.9% were married couples living together, and 50.0% were non-families. 38.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 3.22.

In the town the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 2.4% from 18 to 24, 36.6% from 25 to 44, 14.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 105.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $18,750, and the median income for a family was $31,250. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $22,083 for females. History

Ward was named after James A. Ward, a railroad promoter and auditor of Dakota Territory from 1887-1889.
