- Systems Planning and Analysis
Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. (SPA) is a privately-held professional services company that provides analysis and assessments to clients throughout the U.S. Navy and other agencies within the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security. SPA is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, with offices in Norfolk, Virginia; Washington D.C., and San Diego, California.
History
SPA is led by President and CEO Phillip E. Lantz, who founded the company 36 years ago with a total of three employees. Today, there are more than 450 people in SPA providing decision support to national security leaders. The steady growth has been organic, with no acquisitions or mergers.
Before founding SPA, Mr. Lantz led a conceptual design study for the Navy that resulted in the Trident Submarine and Weapon Systems Programs. He also established the SSBN Security Program at the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory for the Navy. Upon founding SPA, Mr. Lantz continued to work primarily with the U.S. Navy, where he led major technical support programs for the Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs and various other Navy and national security programs. Mr. Lantz thrived on the opportunity to do exciting work that mattered for the nation, and he made the concept of “doing interesting work that matters” an enduring objective of the company that remains today.
Over the past 36 years, SPA has grown and expanded its customer base and experience to cover a wide range of missions and clients. The Navy remains SPA’s primary customer and centerpiece of the company, with a variety of work being done for other key leaders in the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security.
In April 2008, SPA was named as one of the Top 50 Best Places to Work [http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m4PRN/is_2008_April_24/ai_n25356581] in the Washington DC area by the Washington Business Journal.
