Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (Maryland)

The Mongomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency and acts as the enforcement arm of the Montgomery County courts. All deputy sheriffs are fully certified law enforcement officials with full authority of arrest.^[1]

Duties

The duties of the MCSO are as follows^[2]:

• Court Security
• Criminal Warrant Service
• Criminal and Civil court order service
• Child Support Enforcement
• Domestic Violence intervention
• Other duties as assigned

Organization

Nationally accredited in 1995, the current Sheriff is Darren M. Popkin. The MCSO has authorized over 165 employees consisting of sworn law enforcement officers and civilian support staff.^[3]

History

Created in 1777, the MCSO is the oldest law enforcement agency in Montgomery County.^[4]
