List of British Commonwealth Air Training Plan facilities in Australia

This list contains a List of Facilities of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Australia (BCATP), a major program for training Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) air crews during World War II for service in Royal Air Force. The program was also know as "Empire Air Training Scheme".

Training aircraft

The RAAF used the following types of aircraft for training:
* Airspeed Oxford
* Avro Anson
* Avro Cadet
* De Havilland Tiger Moth
* Fairey Battle
* Fairey Swordfish

Facilities

Central Flying School

The Central Flying School was located initially at RAAF Base East Sale, which was relocated to RAAF Camden in 1940.

Initial Training School

Recruits started their training with a few weeks at an Initial Training School, to learn the basics of military life.

* No. 3 Initial Training School, Sandgate, Queensland, relocated to Amberley, Queensland and again to Kingaroy, Queensland
* No. 4 Initial Training School, Victor Harbor, South Australia
* No. 5 Initial Training School, Pearce, Western Australia
* No. 6 Initial Training School, Lindfield, New South Wales

Elementary Flying Training Schools

An Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) gave a recruit 50 hours of basic aviation instruction on a simple trainer like the Moth. Pilots who showed promise went on to advanced training at a Service Flying Training School. Others went on to different specialties, such as Wireless Schools, Air Observer Schools or Bombing and Gunnery Schools.

The Service Flying Training School provided advanced training for pilots, including fighter and multi-engine training.

* Air Gunnery School, West Sale, Victoria
* Central Gunnery School, Sale, Victoria, relocated to Williamtown, NSW, relocated to Mildura, Victoria and again to Cressy, Victoria

Air Navigation Schools

* No. 1 Air Navigation School, Parkes, New South Wales
* No. 2 Air Navigation School, Mount Gambier, South Australia which relocated to Nhill, Victoria.

Wireless Gunners Schools

* No. 1 Wireless Air Gunners School, Ballarat, Victoria
* No. 2 Wireless Air Gunners School, Parkes, New South Wales
* No. 3 Wireless Air Gunners School, Maryborough, Queensland

General Reconnaissance Schools

* General Reconnaissance School, Point Cook, Victoria, relocated to Laverton, Victoria, relocated to Cressy, Victoria and again to Bairnsdale, Victoria
