Lehman Township is a township in Pike County, Pennsylvania, United States. .

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 50.1 square miles (129.8 km²), of which, 48.9 square miles (126.6 km²) of it is land and 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²) of it (2.47%) is water. Many cornfields and forests accompany the land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 7,515 people, 2,603 households, and 2,056 families residing in the township. The population density was 153.7 people per square mile (59.4/km²). There were 4,655 housing units at an average density of 95.2/sq mi (36.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 81.00% White, 11.39% African American, 0.21% Native American, 1.04% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.59% from other races, and 2.75% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.72% of the population.

There were 2,603 households out of which 41.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.23.

In the township the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.5 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $49,856, and the median income for a family was $50,714. Males had a median income of $40,940 versus $28,388 for females. The per capita income for the township was $19,933. About 5.6% of families and 7.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.1% of those under age 18 and 4.6% of those age 65 or over.
