CBON is a Canadian radio station. It broadcasts the Société Radio-Canada's Première Chaîne network at 98.1 FM in Sudbury, Ontario. The station also serves much of Northern Ontario through a network of relay transmitters.

History

Prior to the station's launch in 1978, Radio-Canada programming was carried on private affiliate CFBR. [ [http://www.broadcasting-history.ca/listings_and_histories/radio/histories.php?id=286&historyID=310 CFBR History at Canadian Communications Foundation] ] The CRTC decision authorizing the launch of CBON in fact encouraged, but did not direct, Radio-Canada to retain an AM frequency for its talk radio network, and to reserve CBON for its music network. Baxter Ricard to directly acquire CFBR.

The station's regional morning program is "Le Train du matin" ("Morning Train"), hosted by Denis St-Jules [ [http://www.radio-canada.ca/regions/ontario/Radio/train.shtml "Le Train du matin"] ] , and its regional afternoon program is "Quelque part entre la 11 et la 17" ("Somewhere Between Highway 11 and Highway 17"), hosted by Yannick Bourdon.
