West Wyoming is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,833 at the 2000 census.

Geography

West Wyoming is located at coor dms|41|18|50|N|75|51|6|W|city (41.313780, -75.851640)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 3.6 square miles (9.4 km²), all of it land. A small section of West Wyoming is commonly referred to as "Toy town," because many of the houses were built exactly the same on the exterior, just making it look like a "toy" city.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,833 people, 1,183 households, and 822 families residing in the borough. The population density was 780.2 people per square mile (301.3/km²). There were 1,240 housing units at an average density of 341.5/sq mi (131.9/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.33% White, 0.18% African American, 0.07% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.25% of the population.

There were 1,183 households out of which 26.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 26.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the borough the population was spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $37,275, and the median income for a family was $44,214. Males had a median income of $38,398 versus $25,664 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,603. About 0.2% of families and 3.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.7% of those under age 18 and 11.6% of those age 65 or over.

There are two churches in the town: Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church (Fr. James J. Walsh, Pastor) and West Wyoming United Methodist Church.
