Florid cutaneous papillomatosis
- Florid cutaneous papillomatosis
Florid cutaneous papillomatosis (also known as Schwartz-Burgess Syndrome) is the abrupt onset verrucous papulonodules resembling viral warts, as a cutaneous sign of internal cancer, often seen with acanthosis nigricans and/or of multiple seborrheic keratoses in middle-aged or older people. FCP is almost twice as common in men than in women, especially individuals aged 53-72 years. It was discovered by Robert A. Schwartz MD and Dr. Burgess. It is emphasized that patients with suddenly appearing verrucous papillomas should be examined carefully for an underlying cancer. To call attention to this eruption, which may be mistaken for generalized warts. FCP is a rare disease. So far, very few patients have been reported with Florid cutaneous papillomatosis. The cause of FCP is currently not known, although there are many speculations.
