- The Hamrahlid Choir
The Hamrahlid Choir or Hamrahlíðarkórinn as it is called in Icelandic was founded in
1967 byÞorgerður Ingólfsdóttir , who remains its conductor. The choir consists mostly of alumni ofMenntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð (Hamrahlid College) in Iceland. The choir has traveled extensively and toured dozens of countries inEurope ,North America andAsia , as well asIsrael . Recent ventures includeEstonia (2004),Canada (2005) and the 2006Europa Cantat festival inMainz ,Germany . The choir has also made a career in Iceland by singing big pieces by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky with the distinguishedIcelandic Symphony Orchestra .The choir was awarded "Icelandic classical performer of the year" award in the year
2002 and has released several CDs andgramophone record s.
