- Dewan Undangan Negeri
The Dewan Undangan Negeri (State Legislative Assembly) is the legislature of Malaysian states. There are 13 Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) in the country, corresponding with the 13 states in Malaysia. The DUN is comprised of the
head of state s (Sultan ,Yang di-Pertua Negeri ,Raja , orYang di-Pertuan Besar ), a Speaker, and elected members of the DUN. Members of the DUN comprises single-member elected representatives from state electorates (State Assembly Districts) during state elections. (For those elected in 2008, seeState Seats Representatives, 12th Malaysian General Election .) The DUNs have powers to enact state laws as allowed by theConstitution of Malaysia . The DUN is also used to determine the executive branch of the government in each state. This is done using theplurality voting system , whereby, the political party forming the majority in the DUN will form the state government, and the party leader in the state will becomechief minister . As of March 2008, eight state executive power are held by theBarisan Nasional coalition, while five are held by the opposition coalition.The DUN is a unicameral legislature, unlike that of the
