Burnley is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

History

The seat was created in 1868. Since the Second World War, it has been a generally safe Labour seat. The Conservative Party came within 787 votes of taking the seat in 1983, their strongest recent showing. The current review of parliamentary representation in Lancashire by the Boundary Commission for England proposes no change to the existing boundaries of the Burnley seat. The seat remains coterminous with the boundaries of the borough of Burnley.
