Helena is a village in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 236 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Helena is located at coor dms|41|20|27|N|83|17|32|W|city (41.340711, -83.292344)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 236 people, 98 households, and 76 families residing in the village. The population density was 794.2 people per square mile (303.7/km²). There were 104 housing units at an average density of 350.0/sq mi (133.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.03% White, 2.97% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.36% of the population.

There were 98 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.4% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% were non-families. 20.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.75.

In the village the population was spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $37,292, and the median income for a family was $35,938. Males had a median income of $44,063 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,440. About 11.3% of families and 12.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.3% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
