Boardman Township is one of the fourteen townships of Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 42,518 people in the township. Geography

Centered at 41°2'20" North, 80°39'55" West in the central part of the county, it borders the following townships:
*Youngstown - north
*Poland Township - east
*Springfield Township - southeast
*Beaver Township - south
*Canfield Township - west
*Austintown Township - northwest corner

Several populated places are located in Boardman Township:
*Part of the village of Poland, in the east
*Part of the city of Youngstown, in the northeast
*The census-designated place of Boardman, all the rest of the township except the southeastern and southwestern corners

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 23.78 square miles (61.56 km²), of which, 23.68 square miles (61.30 km²) of it is land and 0.10 square miles (0.26 km²) of it (0.42%) is water.

Name and history

It is the only Boardman Township statewide.

Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.

Education

Local students attend either West Boulevard, Stadium Drive, Robinwood Lane, or Market Street Elementary schools, Boardman Center or Boardman Glenwood Middle Schools, and Boardman High School.fact|date=December 2007
