Hanover is a village in Licking County, Ohio, United States. The population was 885 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Hanover is located at coor dms|40|4|41|N|82|16|12|W|city (40.078109, -82.269869)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 885 people, 314 households, and 258 families residing in the village. The population density was 885.2 people per square mile (341.7/km²). There were 328 housing units at an average density of 328.1/sq mi (126.6/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.53% White, 0.45% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.23% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.23% of the population.

There were 314 households out of which 41.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.4% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.8% were non-families. 15.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $50,313, and the median income for a family was $53,438. Males had a median income of $39,048 versus $23,854 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,679. About 3.9% of families and 4.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.5% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.

* Hanover was the site of a Shell's Wonderful World of Golf challenge between Dottie Pepper and Karrie Webb in 1999 at the Longaberger Golf Club.
* Hanover was the starting point of the first large trans-continental sheep drive lead by William Welles Hollister.
*The first Mayor of Hanover was Michael Arter. He was also active in the Underground Railroad movement and served in the Ohio Legislature.
