Early life

Bobby Saxon was born in 1962 at Athens General Hospital in Athens, Georgia. He was the eldest of three children, and after his father died in 1970, his young mother called on him to set an example for his younger siblings. While growing up in Oconee County he served as President of his class as a sophomore, junior, and senior at Oconee County High School, and also received several honors for his involvement in 4-H and Future Farmers of America.

Education

After high school Saxon enrolled at North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia. To help with the cost of tuition, Saxon enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard in 1983. The next year he transferred to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, where he began pursuing a degree in Business Administration while still continuing his military training. In 1985, Saxon graduated from the Army's Airborne School, qualifying as a paratrooper.

Military Service

After earning his college degree, Bobby proudly served his country for eight years in the United States Army. He then returned home to Oconee County where he started a small business. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Bobby decided return to active military duty. He rejoined the Georgia Army National Guard and was promoted to the rank of Major in 2004. Major Saxon served in brief assignments in Afghanistan as the Project Officer for JMARC. His home unit was then mobilized to Iraq and there he served as the Battle Major for the 3rd Infantry Division in Baghdad. When his tour of duty in Iraq ended, Bobby was appointed to the Army Operations Center at the Pentagon, where he monitored the United States military’s effort to suppress terror worldwide.
