pecial election 2007

No candidate won a majority in the first round, so a July 17 runoff was held between the top two finishers: Republicans Jim Whitehead, a state senator from Evans, and Dr. Paul Broun, a physician from Athens. 2008 election

The Democratic candidate in the 2008 election will be Iraq War Veteran Bobby Saxon, as he was the only candidate on the Democratic Primary ballot.

The 2008 Republican Party primary was contested between State Representative Barry Fleming and incumbent Paul Broun. Unofficial results as of July 18, 2008, show Broun winning the primary with approximately 71% of the vote.
